What would you tell your best friend?

My Wednesday Wish for You: To Be Your Own Best Friend

We often push ourselves harder than anyone else ever could. That inner voice that says “suck it up,” “push through,” or “take one for the team” can help us build grit and resilience—but like any muscle, when overused, it can lead to strain or even injury. Strength without balance
becomes depletion.

When challenges pile up or stress feels constant, it’s easy to keep grinding—believing things will calm down “after this week” or “once that project is done.” But life rarely follows our preferred schedule. Sometimes the only way to keep going well is to stop for a bit. To pause. To breathe. To care for yourself the way you’d care for someone you love.

None of us is truly irreplaceable at work or in our routines—but we are irreplaceable in the lives of those who love us. So, if your body or spirit is whispering (or shouting) that it needs rest, listen. Reschedule the meeting. Take the walk. Call a friend. Close the laptop.

If your best friend were in your shoes, what would you tell them? Probably to rest, reset, and trust that things will wait. My wish for you this week is that you take your own advice—be your own best friend. You’ll show up stronger, kinder, and more present when you do.
