If you only read one Wednesday Wish, this is it.
My Wednesday Wish for You
This Wednesday, I wish for you the courage to find common ground.
In a world where headlines shout division and social media amplifies every disagreement, it’s easy to fall into the trap of “us versus them.” Polls show alarming divides: many of us view those with opposing beliefs as not just wrong but dangerous, even evil. At the same time, a majority feel unknown, unseen, and disconnected. It’s no wonder so many cling to the comfort of “sides,” even if it comes at the expense of understanding.
But what if this week, we made a choice? A choice to cross the road, the bridge, or the aisle—not to argue, but to listen. What if, instead of holding tight to our assumptions, we asked someone on the “other side” what life experiences shaped their beliefs?
This kind of connection takes humility and curiosity. It also requires self-reflection. If you feel unwilling to reach out, ask yourself why. What’s behind that hesitation? Fear? Judgment? Or maybe just the fatigue of these divisive times?
I believe the noise that seems to separate us is just that—noise. Beneath it, our shared humanity runs deep. We laugh, love, hurt, and dream in ways more alike than different. Finding even one point of agreement can begin to quiet the noise and close the divide.
So, my wish is for you to take that step, however small, toward understanding. Because when we choose connection over contention, we remind ourselves—and each other—that we are not so far apart after all. Are you willing to help close the divide?
