Give yourself grace for your goals
My Wednesday Wish for you is to reframe Quitters Friday.
The second Friday of the year has earned an unfortunate nickname: Quitters Friday. It’s the day when research suggests most people have already let go of their New Year’s resolutions. Not because they’re lazy or unmotivated—but because reality shows back up.
During the holiday break, we get space. We rest a little, dream a little, and convince ourselves that this year will be different because this time we’ll have more willpower, more discipline, and more grit. Then work resumes, inboxes refill, routines tighten, and the goals we set in a quieter season collide with real life.
I’m not here to tell you to stop making resolutions. I suggest we make them more humane.
What if, instead of going all-in on day one, we eased in? Built up instead of burned out? What if missing a day didn’t mean failure—but simply meant… we missed a day?
A broken streak is not a character flaw. Losing ground doesn’t disqualify you from moving forward. It just gives you data. You get to ask: What worked? What didn’t? What needs to shift?
You can always start again. You can always pivot. You can slow the pace, change the approach, or even decide that the audacious goal you chose wasn’t actually aligned with the season you’re in—and that’s wisdom, not weakness.
Progress isn’t linear, and success isn’t fragile. It can withstand pauses, resets, and rethinks.
Let’s redefine Quitters Friday. Let it be a checkpoint, not an ending. A moment to recalibrate, not resign.
My wish for you is realism with resolve—so this Friday is just another step in a journey you’re still very much on.
